Use only in cultivation independent of natural soil: the root space in the pot or container remains separate from garden soil. An outdoor container is still pot culture; do not incorporate the mix into garden beds.

Repot palms with their root ball intact
Many fine roots and a delicate crown: give your palm new root space with care.
Keep the root ball intact
Support the root ball from below. Preserve healthy roots and remove only loose old compost.
Many roots sharing one root space
Palms form many roots from the stem base. Disturb their fine lateral roots as little as possible.
Protect the fronds and crown
Feather and fan palms differ in growth. Guide fronds gently when moving the plant and avoid injuring the central crown.
A closer look at the compost
The dark organic base contains fine peat, wood fibres and composted bark. Pale perlite particles and mineral constituents from lava and raw clay complement the rooting medium.

Planting and repotting in eight steps
For palms in pots and containers. Protect the root ball and crown and allow water to drain freely.

Check the need and prepare
Repot when roots fill the pot or the compost needs renewal. The start of active growth is usually a good time for healthy indoor palms.
Prepare compost, water and a clean pot. Move large palms with a helper and wear gloves around spiny leaf stalks.

Choose a stable pot
Match the new pot to the existing root ball, increasing its size slightly only when needed. Height and stability matter with long fronds.
Do not choose only by crown size. A large volume of unused compost can remain wet for a long time.

Prepare drainage and a base layer
Clear drainage holes are essential. A permeable cover can prevent compost loss while leaving water free to escape.
Loosen the compost and add a base layer. An extra coarse drainage layer is not a general requirement.

Unpot gently
Ease the old pot away and support the compost-filled root ball. Do not pull on fronds or the crown.
Remove only loose old compost. Do not routinely cut, wash or pull healthy roots apart.

Keep the original planting depth
Keep the root-ball surface at its previous height. Do not bury the stem base or leaf bases under extra compost.
Leave some watering space below the rim. Position the palm upright and support it while filling.

Fill around the sides
Gradually fill gaps around the ball with fresh compost. Firm lightly with your fingers without heavy compression.
The mix already contains nutrients. Do not automatically mix in extra starter fertiliser.

Water and allow drainage
Water slowly and evenly to settle fresh compost against the ball. Let excess water drain completely.
Empty the saucer or outer pot afterwards. Check root-zone moisture before watering again.

Aftercare for your palm species
Check for settling after potting. If needed, top up around the sides without planting the palm deeper.
Match light, warmth and water to the palm species. According to the label, start feeding after 4 to 6 weeks; consider growth and the fertiliser label.

Can I use this palm compost in a container on the terrace?
Yes, an outdoor container is still the intended pot culture. Do not incorporate the compost into garden beds; whether your palm can stand outdoors depends on its species and the temperature.
Does a palm with long fronds automatically need a very large pot?
Base the choice on the existing root ball and stability. Increase the pot size slightly only when more space is needed; a large amount of unrooted compost can stay wet for a long time.
Should I shorten long palm roots before potting?
Do not routinely cut, wash or pull healthy roots apart during an ordinary pot change. Support the root ball and remove only loose old compost.
Do I need to buy material for a coarse drainage layer as well?
An extra coarse layer is not a general requirement. The compost is ready to use; keep drainage holes clear and use only a permeable cover over them if needed.
What matters when watering for the first time after repotting?
Water slowly and evenly, allow complete drainage and empty the saucer. Check root-zone moisture before watering again.
Do I need extra palm fertiliser when repotting?
The mix already contains nutrients, so do not automatically add starter fertiliser. The current bag label specifies further feeding after four to six weeks, according to growth.

- Wear gloves when repotting. Watch for spiny leaf stalks and sharp leaf edges; move large palms with a helper.
- Avoid dust and ventilate well when transferring the mix. Use a suitable mask when needed, particularly with respiratory conditions or allergies to mould or growing-medium ingredients.
- Avoid eye contact; rinse with water if contact occurs. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after use.
- Do not eat the compost. Keep away from children, pets, food and animal feed. If accidentally swallowed, seek medical advice and have the product information available.
- Growing media may contain microorganisms. Protect open wounds; clean and cover injuries.
- Keep bags closed during transport. Clear up spilled compost promptly to prevent slipping.
- Dispose of residues and packaging according to local rules. Do not put into drains or release uncontrolled into the environment.
