Easy application
A ficus can grow into its indoor space over many years. This ready-to-use compost refreshes the root zone when repotting weeping figs, rubber plants, fiddle-leaf figs and other Ficus species.
- Check whether repotting is needed
Look for roots filling the container or a growing medium that has lost structure. Repot when needed, preferably as active growth begins.
- Keep the original planting depth
Add a little compost, place the root ball and keep its surface at the previous level. Do not bury the stem base or crown further. Leave a watering rim.
- Follow establishment
After 4–6 weeks, review nutrition as directed on the label and begin supplementary feeding if needed. Account for initial nutrients; do not add feed simply by the calendar. Initially check moisture in the old root ball and new compost separately.

Repotting in eight steps
For rooted potted ficus plants. Planned bonsai root pruning is not part of this process.

Check whether repotting is needed
Look for roots filling the container or a growing medium that has lost structure. Repot when needed, preferably as active growth begins.

Choose a suitable container
Choose a stable pot with drainage and some space around the existing ficus root ball. A large crown alone does not determine the required pot size.

Provide free drainage
Check and clear drainage holes. An extra coarse layer is not required and cannot replace free drainage.
Add a base layer of loosened compost. Do not leave the container standing in water.

Release the root ball gently
Ease the pot away and support the root ball from below. Do not pull on the trunk or slender branches; preserve healthy roots and remove only loose compost.

Keep the original planting depth
Add a little compost, place the root ball and keep its surface at the previous level. Do not bury the stem base or crown further. Leave a watering rim.

Fill around the root ball
Add fresh compost in small portions and firm gently. Close large gaps without compacting the medium hard.

Water and allow drainage
Moisten slowly and evenly, including the fresh compost beside the root ball. Remove excess water completely from the saucer or outer pot.

Is this compost only for weeping figs?
No. The label specifies planting and repotting Ficus species, rather than a single species.
I want peat-free compost – is this suitable?
No: the original label lists raised-bog peat H2–H5. A peat-free choice requires a different compost explicitly declared as peat-free.
Do I also need to buy perlite or sand?
Both are already included, together with peat and raw clay. Ficus Compost is supplied ready to use.
How should I choose between 5 and 10 litres?
Allow enough fresh compost for the free space beside and beneath the existing root ball. Plant size alone does not determine which pack is sufficient.
Does “4–6 weeks” mean I must feed automatically?
No. The label says to check nutrient contents after about 4–6 weeks and begin supplementary feeding if needed.
Why does the compost contain wetting agents?
The label lists wetting agents to optimise water uptake. This does not imply a guarantee against waterlogging or root damage.

Safety instructions
Avoid breaking branches and contact with escaping plant sap. Wear gloves and support large ficus plants by the root ball when moving them.
- Wear gloves, cover open wounds and wash hands with soap and water afterwards. Growing media may contain microorganisms.
- Avoid dust and ventilate well. Take extra care with sensitive airways or allergies to mould and soil ingredients; use suitable respiratory protection when needed.
- Avoid eye contact. If compost enters the eyes, rinse with water. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
- Not for consumption. Keep out of reach of children and pets and separate from food and animal feed. If accidentally swallowed, seek medical advice and have product information available.
- Transport bags closed and move heavy containers with assistance. Clear spilled compost to prevent slipping.
- Dispose of residues and packaging according to local rules. Do not put into drains or release uncontrolled into the environment.
