Repotting & subsequent feeding
Repotting in eight steps
- Recognise the need to repot
Check whether roots fill the pot or old compost has lost structure. Repot to help the roots rather than simply following a fixed date.
- Choose a suitable container
A stable pot should hold the root ball with some fresh compost around it. Account for the broad root system of rhododendrons.
- Keep drainage clear
Check drainage holes and remove blockages. A closed cachepot needs a removable inner pot with its own drainage. An extra coarse layer cannot replace drainage holes.
- Release the root ball gently
Moisten the root ball beforehand if needed. Support its weight, release the pot carefully and do not pull the plant out by its branches.
- Keep the previous depth
Add a little compost and set the root ball in place. Keep its top at the previous planting level and do not bury the root collar.
- Fill around the root ball
Add compost around the root ball in small amounts and firm lightly. Do not compact it hard; leave watering space below the rim.
- Water evenly
Water slowly to moisten the old root ball and fresh compost. Prefer low-lime water.
- Monitor establishment
The label says to start supplementary feeding after six to eight weeks; account for growth, existing nutrition and fertiliser instructions. Do not automatically add more feed immediately after repotting. During the following weeks, check moisture in the old root ball and fresh compost separately.
Prepare the fertiliser separately
5 ml per 2.5 l of water.

- Shake
Shake the concentrate before use.
- Prepare water
Pour the required amount of water into a suitable container.
- Select strength
Use standard 100%, young plants 50%, or seedlings with leaves 20% of the basic dilution. Concentration does not determine the watering volume needed.
- Measure concentrate
Measure the calculated amount accurately with a suitable measuring aid.
- Mix
Add the concentrate to the water and mix evenly.
- Apply as needed
Feed the already moist root ball when nutrients are needed; do not overwater using a rigid water volume.
Do not mix the entire bottle into the bag. The compost is ready to use; dilute the concentrate separately with water.

Buy the components separately
Do not bury the shallow root ball more deeply and account for water quality for these acid-loving plants. Indoor azaleas and hardy garden rhododendrons need different winter positions.

Assess alkaline garden soil separately. A small pocket of acidic compost does not change the whole site. Do not routinely line planting holes with plastic; water must not collect.

- Do not apply in direct sunlight or at temperatures below 5 °C or above 30 °C.
- Apply to a pre-moistened root zone or spray the foliage. Do not spray open flowers.

Protect from drying out and becoming waterlogged; keep out of direct sunlight. Store cool and dark. Reseal opened packaging tightly and use promptly.
