Easy application

Repot when more space is needed: protect the ball and keep drainage clear.

  1. Choose a pot to fit the ball

Choose a slightly larger container only when more root space is needed. Allow fresh compost beneath and around the existing ball.

  2. Keep the original planting depth

Adjust the compost bed so the existing root-ball surface sits below the pot rim. Leave room for watering.

  3. Water and allow drainage

Water slowly and evenly according to the condition of the ball. Settle the new compost against it and let excess water drain freely.

The label specifies feeding after 4–6 weeks; consider growth and the fertiliser label.

PropertiesProduct characteristics and guidance

The declared ingredients are raised-bog peat, slightly to strongly decomposed (H3–H8), wood fibre and composted bark from forestry, plus lava, raw clay and perlite. Calcium carbonate and NPK fertiliser are also listed.

The label lists wetting agents to make rewetting with water easier, and perlite to improve the air and water balance. The proportions of individual ingredients are not stated.

  • Bag contents: 10 litres.
  • Contains peat; not a peat-free mixture.
  • Ready to use for the declared application.
Declared growing-medium valuespH, salt content and nutrients from the product label.

Repot container-grown olives with care

Support the root ball, retain the planting depth and let water drain freely.

Soil-filled olive root ball supported from below when unpotting

Keep the ball together

Support the ball from below when unpotting. Preserve healthy roots and remove only loose old compost.

Fine olive roots with adhering compost

Protect fine roots

Do not routinely wash or pull the compost-filled ball apart. Check root condition and space together.

Practical guide

Planting and repotting in eight steps

Ready-to-use growing medium for olive trees in pots and containers. Use only independently of natural soil; do not incorporate into garden beds.

  1. 1

Check the need and work area

Check whether roots fill the pot or the compost needs renewal. Leaf problems alone are not a reason to repot; check moisture and growing conditions too.

Prepare compost, a suitable container and water. Choose a frost-free period in spring to early summer and move heavy containers with a helper.

  2. 2

Choose a pot to fit the ball

Choose a slightly larger container only when more root space is needed. Allow fresh compost beneath and around the existing ball.

Check stability and clear drainage holes. A large excess of unrooted compost can stay wet for a long time.

  3. 3

Prepare drainage and a compost bed

Keep drainage holes open. A permeable cover can help prevent compost loss; do not use an impermeable sheet.

Loosen the compost and add a base layer. An extra gravel or granule layer is not a general requirement and cannot replace a free outlet.

  4. 4

Support and release the root ball

Ease the old pot away and support the root ball from below. Do not pull forcefully on branches or the trunk.

Remove loose old compost and preserve healthy roots. Do not routinely wash or prune the roots.

  5. 5

    Keep the original planting depth

Adjust the compost bed so the existing root-ball surface sits below the pot rim. Leave room for watering.

Do not bury the junction between roots and trunk under extra compost. Position the tree upright and support it while filling.

  6. 6

    Fill gently around the sides

Add fresh compost around the root ball in small portions. Firm lightly with your fingers without squeezing the ball or compacting the mix hard.

Keep the planting depth and watering space. The compost already contains nutrients; do not automatically add starter fertiliser when repotting.

  7. 7

    Water and allow drainage

Water slowly and evenly according to the condition of the ball. Settle the new compost against it and let excess water drain freely.

Empty the saucer or outer pot afterwards. Water overflowing the rim is not a substitute for controlled watering of the root zone.

  8. 8

    Plan aftercare and feeding

Top up settled compost around the sides if needed without burying the trunk deeper. Check moisture before watering again.

The label specifies feeding after 4–6 weeks; consider growth and the fertiliser label. Choose a suitable bright position and protect container-grown olives from frost.

Quick answers before you buy (FAQ)

Is this compost for my potted olive or also for a garden bed?

It is intended for olive trees in pots and containers. The label’s requirement to use it independently of natural soil means container cultivation, without incorporating it into garden beds.

When is it worth repotting my olive tree?

Repot when roots fill the pot or the compost needs renewal. Choose a frost-free period in spring to early summer.

Do I need to mix in sand or fertiliser before planting?

The mix is ready to use and already contains lava, raw clay, perlite and fertiliser. No additional base mix is needed for its intended container use.

Will the 10-litre bag be enough for my container?

The amount depends on the space beneath and around the existing root ball. A reliable estimate requires the container’s internal dimensions and the size of the root ball.

When should I feed the olive again after repotting?

The compost is pre-fertilised; its label specifies starting further feeding after 4–6 weeks. Then consider the tree’s growth and follow the instructions of the olive fertiliser you use.

Do I also need a thick drainage layer?

An extra gravel or granule layer is not a general requirement. Keep drainage holes clear so excess water can escape, and empty the saucer.

Will fresh compost automatically solve yellow leaves?

Yellow leaves alone do not establish a need to repot. First check moisture, growing conditions and root health.

Safety and storage

Safety instructions

Follow the label on the bag.

  • Wear gloves when repotting. Move heavy olive trees and containers with a helper; do not pull on branches.
  • Avoid dust and ventilate well when transferring the mix. Use a suitable mask when needed, particularly with respiratory conditions or allergies to mould or growing-medium ingredients.
  • Avoid eye contact; rinse with water if contact occurs. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after use.
  • Do not eat the compost. Keep away from children, pets, food and animal feed. If accidentally swallowed, seek medical advice and have the product information available.
  • Growing media may contain microorganisms. Protect open wounds; clean and cover injuries.
  • Keep bags closed during transport. Clear up spilled compost promptly to prevent slipping.
  • Dispose of residues and packaging according to local rules. Do not put into drains or release uncontrolled into the environment.
  • Report safety concerns to info@green24.de with the product name and item number.

Storage

Store in a dark place sheltered from the weather. Protect from drying out, waterlogging and direct sun. Reseal opened bags tightly and use promptly. Store separately from food and animal feed.
