Repotting in eight steps

1. Check the plant and timing

   Record the cultivar and pruning group. Move rooted container plants preferably in spring or early autumn. Delay in frozen or waterlogged soil and strong heat; this sequence covers container-grown plants.

2. Plan the pot and support

   Choose a stable container with adequate root space, clear drainage holes and suitable support. Allow for training the stems later. Protect the root zone from excessive heating.

3. Check drainage

   Inspect bottom holes and the standing surface. Excess water must escape freely. A bottom layer cannot replace clear holes or appropriate watering.

4. Release the root ball

   Moisten a dry root ball first. Ease off the pot and support the plant by its root ball. Never use brittle clematis stems as handles. Gently loosen only densely circling roots at the edge.

5. Choose the right depth

   Large-flowered hybrids blooming in early or late summer can be planted with the root-ball surface 5–7.5 cm below the new soil level. Winter- and spring-flowering, evergreen, viticella and tangutica species and their cultivars, and herbaceous clematis should have the root-ball surface just below soil level. Deep planting is not a rule for every clematis. Check the plant label before filling. There is no single planting depth for the whole genus.

6. Fill around the sides

   Add clematis compost into the gaps in portions and firm lightly. Leave a watering rim. Avoid trapping stems or compressing the root zone hard. Support the plant until it stands securely.

7. Water slowly

   Gradually moisten the old root ball and new compost. Allow drainage and empty the saucer. Guide shoots loosely onto their support. Short new leaf stalks need suitable elements to grip.

8. Follow establishment

   Monitor moisture in both the old root ball and new compost, protect stems from damage and check ties. The compost is pre-fertilised. With no fixed label interval, assess further need from growth, season and nutrition already supplied.

Prepare the fertiliser separately

5 ml per litre of water.

Every 3–4 weeks during active growth; regular application period April–September.

One capful equals 5 ml.

1. Shake

   Shake the concentrate before use.

2. Prepare water

   Pour the required amount of water into a suitable container.

3. Select strength

   Use standard 100%, young plants 50%, or seedlings with leaves 20% of the basic dilution. Concentration does not determine the watering volume needed.

4. Measure concentrate

   Measure the calculated amount accurately with a suitable measuring aid.

5. Mix

   Add the concentrate to the water and mix evenly.

6. Apply as needed

   Feed the already moist root ball when nutrients are needed; do not overwater using a rigid water volume.

Do not mix the entire bottle into the bag. The compost is ready to use; dilute the concentrate separately with water.

Fertiliser

• Shake well before use. Do not use undiluted.
• Preferably use low-lime water or rainwater at 15–25 °C.
• Do not apply in direct sunlight or below 5 °C or above 30 °C.
• Feed a pre-moistened root zone or spray foliage. Do not spray open flowers.
• Keep out of reach of children and animals. Follow leaflet 130405.

Dry · dark · above 8 to a maximum of 38 °C

Store dry and dark above 8 °C and at no more than 38 °C. Keep out of reach of children and animals.

Compost

Not for consumption. Avoid raising dust when filling and wash hands afterwards.

Sheltered, cool and dark

Protect from drying out, excessive wetness and direct sunlight. Seal opened bags tightly and use promptly.
