Repotting in eight steps

1. Check whether repotting is needed

   Look for roots densely filling the container or emerging through drainage holes, or a growing medium that needs replacing. A yellow leaf tip alone is not a reason to repot immediately. Have compost, a suitable container, watering can and protective mat ready. Where possible, plan routine repotting near the start of active growth.

2. Match the pot to the root ball

   Choose a stable pot suited to the existing root ball and plant size. When more root space is needed, allow room beside and beneath the ball for fresh compost. An exceptionally large pot is not suitable for every young plant. Leave watering space below the rim and consider the weight when the plant next needs moving.

3. Provide clear drainage

   Check the drainage holes. Any coarse layer and permeable fleece must not block the outlet. A closed decorative outer pot needs an inner plant pot with drainage holes. A layer of gravel or expanded clay does not replace drainage.

4. Ease out the root ball

   Support the weight at the root ball and loosen the old pot by gently squeezing or tapping it. Do not pull on the large leaves, leaf stalks or pseudostems. Preserve healthy roots where possible. Heavy root pruning or dividing suckers is not an automatic part of repotting; these tasks need separate assessment.

5. Set the planting depth

   Add some compost to the base and place the root ball on it. Adjust the amount underneath until the original root-ball surface sits at a suitable height. Keep the plant at its previous depth. Do not heap compost around leaf bases; leave enough space below the rim for watering.

6. Fill around and firm gently

   Add compost around the root ball in small amounts. Press only lightly with your hand to close larger gaps. Do not compact the mix hard. Hold the plant in its intended position while filling and maintain even watering space around the pot.

7. Water the new root zone

   Water the surface slowly and evenly. The fresh compost beside the old root ball also needs moistening. Watch for water draining from the base and adjust the amount to the moisture level. Afterwards, empty standing water from the saucer or outer pot.

8. Check settling and aftercare

   Check whether the compost has settled after watering. Carefully fill small hollows without changing the original planting depth or watering space. Check root-ball moisture before watering again. Record the repotting date: the label specifies checking nutrient levels after about 4–6 weeks and feeding further if needed.

Prepare the fertiliser separately

Shake well before use and never apply undiluted. Two capfuls equal 10 ml according to the label. Regular application period in Europe: April to September. Official advisory recommendations take precedence.

   Shake the concentrate before use.

2. Prepare water

   Pour the required amount of water into a suitable container.

3. Select strength

   Use standard 100%, young plants 50%, or seedlings with leaves 20% of the basic dilution. Concentration does not determine the watering volume needed.

4. Measure concentrate

   Measure the calculated amount accurately with a suitable measuring aid.

5. Mix

   Add the concentrate to the water and mix evenly.

6. Apply as needed

   Feed the already moist root ball when nutrients are needed; do not overwater using a rigid water volume.

Do not mix the entire bottle into the bag. The compost is ready to use; dilute the concentrate separately with water.

Product pH: 6.6. This describes the product, not the resulting soil pH.

• 5.9% total nitrogen (N), comprising 1.4% nitrate nitrogen, 1.1% ammoniacal nitrogen and 3.4% urea nitrogen.
• 8.0% water-soluble phosphate (P₂O₅).
• 10.2% water-soluble potassium oxide (K₂O).
• 0.01% water-soluble boron (B).
• 0.004% water-soluble copper (Cu), as EDTA chelate.
• 0.02% water-soluble iron (Fe), as EDTA chelate.
• 0.012% water-soluble manganese (Mn), as EDTA chelate.
• 0.001% water-soluble molybdenum (Mo).
• 0.004% water-soluble zinc (Zn), as EDTA chelate.

10 litres of compost: ingredients

Peat and raw clay with mineral fertiliser.

The label lists 70% organic soil material from raised-bog peat with decomposition grade H2–H5, clay in the form of raw clay, calcium carbonate and NPK(Mg) fertiliser.

Wetting agents are included to aid water uptake. This product contains peat. The stated input-material share differs from the separately declared organic matter content.

Declared growing-medium values

Organic matter, pH, salt content and available nutrients.

Nutrient levels refer to the time the manufacturer places the product on the market. Fluctuations and changes may occur during storage; check nutrient levels before using stored compost.

Fertiliser

• Shake before use. Never apply undiluted.

Seal opened bags tightly and store in a dark place. Nutrient levels can change during storage.
