Repotting & subsequent feeding

Repotting in eight steps

  1. Check the need and prepare materials

Before repotting, check root space and moisture. A densely rooted ball may need more room; changes in leaf appearance alone do not justify repotting. Prepare a suitable container, compost and water. Wear gloves when handling oleander and avoid contact with its sap. Work in suitable frost-free weather without excessive heat.

  2. Choose the pot to fit the root ball

The new container must be stable and have drainage holes. If more root space is needed, choose a slightly larger pot with room beside and beneath the ball for fresh compost. Allow for a watering rim and the original planting depth too. A very large pot is not automatically better; choose a container suited to the root ball.

  3. Prepare the base and drainage

Check that drainage holes are open and will not be blocked by the surface underneath. A watertight decorative outer pot does not replace a planting container with drainage. If you use this arrangement, keep the drainage holes open. The arrangement alone does not prevent waterlogging; watering must suit the root ball too.

  4. Release the plant carefully

Gently moisten a very dry root ball first. Ease it from the old pot by pressing the sides of a flexible container or tapping the pot lightly. Support the ball instead of pulling hard on branches. Check exposed roots for damage. Preserve healthy roots; repotting does not call for routine root or shoot pruning. Investigate soft, foul-smelling roots before proceeding.

  5. Set the compost bed and height

Add a first layer of compost to the prepared container and set the root ball on it temporarily. Adjust the amount beneath the ball until the old compost surface is at the right height. The new surface should finish level with the old root-ball surface. Keep the root collar uncovered and leave enough space below the pot rim for watering.

  6. Fill around the sides

Hold the plant in position and add compost around the ball in small portions. Firm lightly by hand to close larger air pockets. Do not compact the compost forcefully. Keep checking the planting depth and an even watering rim as you fill.

  7. Water evenly

Water slowly so that both the old root ball and the fresh compost can absorb water. Observe the drainage from the base. Prevent excess water accumulating unnoticed in an outer pot. If water only overflows the upper rim, check the surface, watering rim and drainage before continuing.

  8. Check settling and plan aftercare

After watering, check whether compost has settled around the sides. Top up gently if needed, without burying the root collar or stem more deeply. Record the repotting date. The label says supplementary feeding begins after 4–6 weeks; account for season, plant condition and existing nutrients. Check moisture before each subsequent watering.

Prepare the fertiliser separately

10 ml per 2.5 l of water.

Every 1–2 weeks during the growing season.

Regular application period: April–September.

10 l40 ml20 ml8 ml
  1. Shake

    Shake the concentrate before use.

  2. Prepare water

Pour the required amount of water into a suitable container.

  3. Select strength

Use standard 100%, young plants 50%, or seedlings with leaves 20% of the basic dilution. Concentration does not determine the watering volume needed.

  4. Measure concentrate

Measure the calculated amount accurately with a suitable measuring aid.

  5. Mix

Add the concentrate to the water and mix evenly.

  6. Apply as needed

Feed the already moist root ball when nutrients are needed; do not overwater using a rigid water volume.

Do not mix the entire bottle into the bag. The compost is ready to use; dilute the concentrate separately with water.

Oleander Repotting Set: 10 litres of ready-to-use repotting compost and 250 ml liquid concentrate for later feeding according to need.

The label says to start supplementary feeding after 4 to 6 weeks. Allow for existing nutrients, the season and plant condition, and follow the directions for the fertiliser subsequently used.

10 litres of compost: ingredients

Growing medium with organic and mineral ingredients.

The declared ingredients are raised-bog peat with decomposition grades H3 to H8, wood fibre and composted bark from forestry, lava, raw clay, naturally sourced sand and perlite. Calcium carbonate and NPK fertiliser are also listed.

The label lists wetting agents to make rewetting easier and perlite to improve the air and water balance. The mix contains peat; it is not peat-free.

Declared growing-medium values

pH, salt content and nutrients from the product label.

The declared nutrient contents apply when the manufacturer places the product on the market and may vary naturally. After storage, check nutrient contents before use if necessary.

  • pH (CaCl₂): 5.8.
  • Salt content (KCl): 2.0 g/l.
  • Nitrogen (N): 270 mg/l (CaCl₂).
  • Phosphate (P₂O₅): 330 mg/l (CAL).
  • Potassium oxide (K₂O): 570 mg/l (CAL).
  • Magnesium (Mg): 110 mg/l (CaCl₂).
  • The label states that boron, copper and zinc are present in horticulturally relevant amounts; individual quantities are not specified.

Included: one 10-litre bag of compost and one 250 ml bottle of fertiliser. Plant and pot are not included.

Plant knowledge & care

Provide bright conditions and water according to root-ball needs during growth. Adjust watering and feeding during cool overwintering.

Ready to use for oleander and olive plants in containers.

The label specifies ready-to-use application for potting oleander and olive plants on balconies and patios. Use is limited to systems independent of natural soil, such as growing in a container.

The label says to start supplementary feeding after 4 to 6 weeks. Allow for existing nutrients, the season and plant condition, and follow the directions for the fertiliser subsequently used.

The general leaflet supplements the repotting guide. Its instructions for adding compost to garden soil do not extend the declared use of this product.
