Repotting in eight steps

1. Check the need and identify the bamboo

   Inspect the root ball and available rooting space. A densely rooted container may need a larger pot or careful division. Establish whether the bamboo is clumping or running. Prepare compost, a suitable container, water and tools. Work in frost-free weather away from excessive heat.

2. Choose a stable container

   Select a pot with drainage holes and enough space around the existing root ball. Its stability must suit the height and weight of the plant. The compost required is the space to be filled, excluding the existing root ball. Leave a watering rim and consider whether the plant can be removed again for future repotting.

3. Prepare the drainage and pot base

   Clear any blocked drainage holes. Water must also be able to escape at the final position of the pot. An arrangement with coarse material and permeable fleece is optional. This does not replace open holes and suitable watering, or guarantee protection from waterlogging.

4. Release the root ball gently

   Moisten an excessively dry root ball first. Carefully release the container and support the plant from below; do not pull on individual culms. Bamboo rhizomes can fill a pot tightly. If necessary, carefully open the old container rather than tearing the root ball apart. Protect soft new shoots and healthy roots.

5. Check height on a bed of compost

   Add an initial layer of compost and set the root ball on it to check the height. Its previous surface should align with the planned new surface. Adjust the amount beneath the ball to set the height. Do not bury culm bases more deeply; retain space beneath the rim for watering.

6. Fill around and firm gently

   Add fresh compost in small amounts around the ball, keeping it upright. Firm lightly with your fingers to close large gaps. Do not compact the compost hard. Check the height, watering rim and position of new shoots again.

7. Water slowly and thoroughly

   Water evenly so that both the old root ball and fresh compost take up moisture. Watch for water draining from the base. Check for water collecting in an outer pot. If water only bypasses the root ball, inspect its moisture and water in smaller stages as required.

8. Plan follow-up care

   After watering, top up any settled areas around the ball without burying it more deeply. Check moisture and stability over the following days. Record the repotting date: the label specifies supplementary feeding after 4–6 weeks. Feeding still needs to match active growth, the season and nutrients already present.

Prepare the fertiliser separately

5 ml per 2.5 l of water.

Every 1–2 weeks during the growing season.

Regular application period: April–September.

1. Shake

   Shake the concentrate before use.

2. Prepare water

   Pour the required amount of water into a suitable container.

3. Select strength

   Use standard 100%, young plants 50%, or seedlings with leaves 20% of the basic dilution. Concentration does not determine the watering volume needed.

4. Measure concentrate

   Measure the calculated amount accurately with a suitable measuring aid.

5. Mix

   Add the concentrate to the water and mix evenly.

6. Apply as needed

   Feed the already moist root ball when nutrients are needed; do not overwater using a rigid water volume.

Do not mix the entire bottle into the bag. The compost is ready to use; dilute the concentrate separately with water.

10 litres of compost: ingredients

Growing medium with organic and mineral ingredients.

The labels list raised-bog peat with decomposition grades H3 to H5, rock material, red clay, calcium carbonate and mineral NPK fertiliser. The compost contains peat.

The ingredients, declared values and use directions agree on the 5- and 10-litre bags. Choose a pack size according to the volume of compost actually needed.

Organic matter, pH, salt content and nutrients from the label.

The declared nutrient contents apply when the product is placed on the market and can vary naturally. After storage, check nutrient contents before use.

• Salt content (KCl): 2.0 g/l.
• Nitrogen (N): 240 mg/l (CaCl₂).
• Phosphate (P₂O₅): 340 mg/l (CAL).

Fertiliser

• Do not use undiluted. Shake well before use.
• Keep out of reach of children and animals.
• Preferably use low-lime water or rainwater at 15–25 °C.
• Do not apply in direct sunlight or at temperatures below 5 °C or above 30 °C.
• Apply to a pre-moistened root zone or spray the foliage. Do not spray open flowers.

Dry · dark · above 8 °C to a maximum of 38 °C

Store in a dry, dark place above 8 °C and at no more than 38 °C.

Compost

Avoid eye contact and keep dust formation to a minimum. Keep away from food and animal feed. Store out of reach of children and pets.

Store sheltered from the weather in a dark place. Protect from drying out, waterlogging and direct sunlight.

Seal opened packs tightly and use the contents as soon as possible.
