Peperoni Forajido F1: origin, uses and meaning
Forajido brings white flowers and fruits in several colours to one plant – an F1 hot pepper for raised beds and tubs, harvested from July to October.
Origins & history
When Columbus encountered the hot pods in the Caribbean, he took them for a kind of pepper – hence the Spanish name “pimiento”. The word Peperoni comes from Italian; there, however, “peperone” means the large sweet pepper, while the hot pods are called “peperoncino”. In German, Peperoni became the name for the long fruits.
Uses
Hot peppers can be used fresh, pickled or dried and add spice to many dishes. In a tub on a sunny patio, a plant with fruits in different colours is also an eye-catcher. Plenty of sun and warmth are essential.
Meaning
“Forajido” is Spanish for outlaw or bandit – a tongue-in-cheek name for a pod that refuses to commit to a single colour.
„A thought for giving
A bandit among peppers that follows no rule of colour. A gift for people who have kept a little wildness in their lives.
Manufacturer: SPERLI GmbH. Seeds, not a plant – the image shows the original packet.
Contents: 1 packet – enough for approx. 7 plants. Germination rates vary with conditions; sowing a little extra is normal.
Start indoors or sow directly?
This variety is started indoors (February–April) and planted out once it is warm enough.
When can I harvest?
Harvest: July–October. According to the seed packet; times vary with region, weather and sowing date.
Nothing has come up – what now?
Check temperature and moisture first: germination takes 14–21 days at 20–25 °C. Soil that is too cold or dries out, or seeds sown too deep, are the most common causes. Use fresh seed compost and resow if necessary.
How should I store seeds?
Cool, dry and dark – ideally in the closed packet in a tin or jar at around 5–15 °C. Opened packets keep best when tightly closed. Use by the date printed on the packet.
Do I get seeds or a plant?
Seeds in the original SPERLI seed packet – not a plant. The product image shows the packet.
