Details, use and guidance
Technical information, use and safety guidance in one place.
The Italian frying pepper: Friggitello flowers from June to September and bears red fruits of 10–20 g – for the open garden or the greenhouse.
The story
Origins & history
The pepper came from the Americas to southern Europe in the 16th century and found a second home in Italy. Many local types developed there, among them the friggitelli, which are still much loved there today.
Uses
Friggitelli are fried whole in a pan or on the barbecue with a little olive oil and salt – a simple dish for warm summer evenings. The plants love sun and warmth and feel especially at home in a greenhouse.
Meaning
The name gives away how it is cooked: it comes from the Italian “friggere”, to fry. A pepper named after its place in the kitchen.
A thought for giving
Every small, inconspicuous flower can become a fruit. Great joy often begins where hardly anyone is looking.
