Pricking out and transplanting

Two handy tools for separating and transplanting small plants: prepare a planting hole with the dibber and use the forked tip to help gently loosen a plant from its growing medium.

  1. Prepare the workspace

    Have clean pots or a cell tray ready with suitable growing medium.

  2. Check the medium

    Moisten the medium enough to allow small plants to be loosened gently.

  3. Prepare a planting hole

    Use the pointed tool to make a hole with enough room for the roots.

  4. Loosen the plant

    Gently work the forked tip under the small root ball from the side. Do not pull on the delicate stem.

  5. Transplant

    Place the plant at a suitable depth, avoid bending its roots and gently settle the medium around them.

  6. Water and label

    Water according to the plant’s needs and label the crop. Clean the tools after use.
